Provision of assistance to nursing units with patient care when needed. Prioritize, triage, and dispatch transport requests. Responsibilities Transport patients to and from nursing units, outpatient areas, and admitting/discharge areas within the assigned division. Document patients' absences from the nursing unit. Basic communication and telephone skills. Use polite and courteous manner with patients, hospital personnel and visitors. Maintain the department's wheelchairs, carriers, oxygen tanks, morgue carrier, and other transport equipment. Render assistance to patients entering the hospital and physician offices in the assigned division. Maintain CPR certification, departmental education, and accrediting body requirements as specified. Assist in the movement of patients on the nursing unit, including transfers, lifting, turning, and up-chair activities. Assist with orientation of new Patient Transporters. Should possess physical ability to lift and maneuver patients safely to and from all transport equipment and hospital beds. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
