Middle School History Teacher

A full-time, competitively paid teaching position at a first-rate college preparatory school for boys.

Boys' Latin of Philadelphia seeks a Middle School History Teacher charged with developing informed thinkers, connectors, consumers, and historians. The teacher will deliver curricula that promotes the idea that history continues to shape and influence our lives, connecting historical and current events so that students understand the present, consider their own beliefs, and develop empathy for different cultures. The teacher will challenge students to think critically, ask questions, and articulate ideas with supported arguments. The teacher will promote and nurture the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study; monitoring, assisting with, and correcting academic efforts; and providing a safe environment conducive to learning and character development. Over their course of study, students will unpack ancient world histories of both western and non-western worlds; explore the legacy of civilizations from Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas; and examine the development and influence of various religions, philosophies, and political, social, and economic systems.

The teacher will perform the following duties:

• Plan, develop, and deliver a college preparatory curriculum that is aligned with PA Common Core standards and best practices.
• Assess students regularly and use data to drive instruction as well as to provide remediation and enrichment based on individual student need and ability.
• Communicate students' progress toward realizing academic goals, partnering with parents and school personnel to provide instructional and emotional support and resources.
• Build a classroom environment that is welcoming, academic, joyful, and safe.
• Commit to the school's extended day structure, serving students outside of the regular school day, and teaching in the Saturday School and summer academy programs.
• Sponsor extracurricular activities as part of the school's award-winning Leadership Academy.
• Enforce the Student Code of Conduct and serve as a culture keeper of the Boys' Latin mission.
