Position Overview

We are seeking an accomplished Pharmacy Operations Director to provide strategic and operational leadership across a growing pharmacy organization in the United States.

This role will oversee multi-site pharmacy operations, operational performance, regulatory compliance, financial management, workforce development, and process improvement. The successful candidate will bring extensive pharmacy leadership experience and a proven ability to build scalable operating systems, develop high-performing teams, and drive sustainable growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across multiple pharmacy locations.
  • Establish standardized workflows, operating procedures, performance expectations, and accountability systems.
  • Drive improvements in pharmacy productivity, service quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, including prescription volume, revenue, profitability, labor costs, inventory, productivity, quality, and compliance.
  • Lead and develop Pharmacy Managers, Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Regional Managers, and operational support teams.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations, including DEA, HIPAA, controlled-substance, and State Board of Pharmacy requirements.
  • Oversee pharmacy budgets, labor planning, purchasing, inventory management, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve profitability, reduce waste, and optimize operational resources.
  • Support new pharmacy openings, acquisitions, integrations, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Partner with technology and data teams to implement analytics, automation, forecasting, and AI-enabled solutions.
  • Provide executive leadership with operational insights, performance reporting, strategic recommendations, and risk assessments.
Qualifications
  • 20+ years of progressive experience in pharmacy operations, retail pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, long-term care, mail-order pharmacy, healthcare operations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-site, regional, or multi-state pharmacy operations.
  • Extensive experience managing pharmacy leaders and large, complex operating teams.
  • Strong background in operational performance management, budgeting, labor management, inventory, compliance, quality, and patient safety.
  • Proven ability to lead organizational growth, process improvement, and operational transformation.
  • Strong business judgment, analytical ability, communication skills, and leadership presence.
  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent relevant executive-level experience.
  • PharmD, MBA, MHA, or other advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following environments is strongly preferred:

  • Retail pharmacy
  • Specialty pharmacy
  • Long-term care pharmacy
  • Mail-order or central-fill pharmacy
  • Healthcare services
  • Pharmacy acquisitions and integrations
  • Multi-state pharmacy operations

Relevant leadership titles may include Director of Pharmacy Operations, Senior Director of Pharmacy Operations, Regional Pharmacy Director, VP of Pharmacy Operations, or similar senior pharmacy operations roles.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base salary: $180,000–$260,000 annually

Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, scope of responsibility, and the final employment agreement.

Work Arrangement

This is a remote position open to candidates located in the United States . Periodic business travel may be required for leadership meetings, pharmacy locations, new-site launches, acquisitions, or other business activities.
