Operating Room Registered NurseJob Title: Operating Room Registered NurseProfession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Operating RoomDuration: 13 weeks Shift: Four 10-hour shifts plus call Hours per Shift: 10Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Must be able to handle total joints, robotics, general laparoscopic cases, urology, hand and foot, breast cases including reconstructions.Description: RN's must pass an open book exam during orientation to demonstrate skills learned. They will be given all necessary resources to pass the exam. A score of 90% is required to pass, or termination will occur. The department consists of six operating suites. The average number of cases per day exceeds 400 per month. Common cases include adults and pediatrics and mainly outpatient procedures. Procedures performed include orthopedic surgeries, general surgeries, client, robotic surgeries, plastics, ENT, urology, hand surgery, podiatry, and breast reconstructions. There is no charge nurse on each shift, but there are operating room technicians available. The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. The work schedule is from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with the schedule determined by the OR supervisor. Call requirements include 6-7 call shifts per month. Expectations include being available for 2-3 weekends within the 13-week contract. There is a requirement for at least one holiday call per year, depending on needs. Floating is expected within the operating room. The dress code for scrubs is provided. Staff can expect 1-3 days of unit specific orientation. Additional notes include a positive work culture, increasing volumes, and staff engagement. Attributes of successful staff include hard work, efficiency, attention to detail, teamwork, and strong interpersonal skills. Willingness to take call, even on short notice, is important. Staff should be open to changing shifts to accommodate changing volumes. RTO (requested time off) needs to be provided upfront, with a limit of 7 or fewer days for the 13-week contract. Additional RTO requests after submission will not be approved.
