Junior Civil Engineer - Water and Sanitation

About the Role Our client is a growing engineering consultancy committed to improving community infrastructure. We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Junior Civil Engineer to join our team in Welkom, Free State. This role is designed for a recent graduate or an engineer with 1-3 years of experience looking to build a strong foundation in water and sanitation engineering. You will be involved in the design, planning, and implementation of essential water supply and wastewater management projects that directly benefit local communities. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will gain invaluable hands-on experience in hydraulic modeling, pipe network design, treatment processes, and site supervision. Key Responsibilities Assist senior engineers in the design and planning of water supply systems, including pipelines, pumping stations, and treatment works. Support the design of wastewater collection and treatment systems. Conduct hydraulic calculations and network analysis using specialized software. Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, and reports under supervision. Participate in site investigations and assist with construction supervision as needed. Perform quantity take-offs and assist with cost estimations for projects. Ensure designs adhere to relevant standards, regulations, and environmental requirements. Collaborate with team members and contribute to a positive project environment. Learn and apply new engineering techniques and technologies. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution. Eager to pursue professional registration (Pr Eng) with ECSA in the future. 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering, with a preference for exposure to water or sanitation projects. Basic understanding of hydraulics, fluid mechanics, and water/wastewater treatment principles. Familiarity with AutoCAD is essential; experience with water modeling software (e.g., EPANET) is a plus. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
