## Surgical TechnologistApplylocations: Palmer, Massachusettstime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: R42920**Surgical Technologist - Baystate Wing - Palmer****Schedule:** FT Days - 7am-7pm**No Call****Summary:**Under the direction of the Unit Manager, RN Clinical Operations Coordinator, and RN Service Leads the Surgical Technologist works directly under surgeon/physician guidance to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist must possess expertise in the theory and application of aseptic technique; demonstrate the ability to combine knowledge of human anatomy, the surgical process and procedures including instrumentation and advancing technologies. The surgical technologist will be able to anticipate the needs of the surgeons/physicians by constant attention and assessment of the surgical process and patient condition to promote a safe, expedient, quality surgical outcome. These skills will facilitate the surgeons/physicians' performance of minimally invasive, invasive surgical procedures and invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The Surgical Technologist must be able to function proficiently in a variety of surgical specialty services. The Surgical Technologist provides patient care primarily through service to the physician/ surgeon. The Surgical Technologist is expected to have an understanding of the procedure being performed, anticipate the needs of the surgeon/physician, and have the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure, while monitoring the sterile field. The Surgical Technologist is accountable for maintaining skills and knowledge to function in commensurate with their assignments and within the policies and procedures of the department. This description covers the essential functions of the position. The incumbent is expected to perform other similar and/or related duties as assigned after demonstrating competency.### **Job Responsibilities:****1)** Participates in staff development and education activities maintaining competencies on an annual basis, in accordance with performance-based skills and knowledge requirements.**2)**Maintains knowledge and skills in the first scrub role and responsibilities.**3)**Multitasks within the operative setting.**4)**Sets up of the operative setting to facilitate the specific surgical procedure being performed including equipment, instrumentation, lighting, and OR table with the ability to adapt the setting for multiple procedures.**5)**Thinks independently and works under stressful/emergent conditions using positive coping skills.**6)**Considers any variations of the procedure according to specific patient needs and demonstrates knowledge and understanding of normal and abnormal Anatomy and Physiology, the pathological condition affecting the patient, and the planned operative procedure.**7)**Meets the requirements of the designated clinical recognition ladder for a Surgical Technologist Level III. Must have certification as a surgical technologist.**8)**Demonstrates knowledge in the use of pharmacological agents dispensed to the sterile field with the ability to recognize mixtures, doses, and labels in accordance with policies and procedures.**Certification:** Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) required### **Grandfather Provision:** Surgical Technologists employed in this role prior to July 1, 2013 may be considered qualified based on prior experience and demonstrated competency and are not required to meet the current education requirements.**Required Work Experience:****1)** A minimum of 4 years experience.**2)** 1 year of employment at Baystate Health**Preferred Work Experience:****1)** None Listed**Skills and Competencies:****1)** A Surgical Technologist possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic techniques and combines the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures**Education:**Associates Degree**Certifications:**Basic Life Support - American Heart AssociationAmerican Heart AssociationAmerican Heart Association, Certified Surgical Technician - OtherOtherOther**Compensation**Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range.
