Senior Property Accountant

A growing real estate investment and management organization is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join its accounting team. This role will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of commercial real estate assets, including both owned and third-party managed properties.

Responsibilities

• Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate properties
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
• Perform account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities
• Analyze financial results and investigate variances
• Prepare comprehensive monthly reporting packages for ownership and management
• Monitor cash activity, cash flow forecasts, and banking transactions
• Record journal entries and ensure accuracy of financial data
• Coordinate with property management teams regarding budgeting, operating expenses, tenant activity, and financial reporting needs
• Assist with annual budgets, reforecasts, and year-end audit support
• Review CAM reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed asset activity as needed
• Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and reporting requirements
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate or property accounting
• Experience managing accounting for multiple properties and legal entities
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting, financial reporting, and general ledger management
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar property management/accounting software preferred
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines
• Commercial office, industrial, retail, mixed-use, or multifamily property accounting experience
