About the Position

Job Title: Mental Health Technician Profession: Mental Health Technician Specialty: Pediatric Psychiatric Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7A-7P Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of inpatient psychiatric experience License: Maine CNA license Certifications: BLS, MOAB (will obtain on site) Must-Have: Experience working with adolescents and pediatric patients Description: Asap start needed. Interviews conducted, and managers will approve candidates. Facility is a free-standing acute inpatient facility. Patients are medically cleared. Typical patient conditions do not include lines, drains, tubes, etc. Unit accommodates both pediatric and adult patients. Will primarily care for adolescents and pediatric patients aged 5-18. Conditions may include autism, self-mutilation, harm, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, gender dysphoria, trauma, and sexual trauma. Patient ratios are 6 psych techs during the day and 2 at night. Comfortable with redirection and de-escalation techniques is required. Assisting with activities of daily living is part of the role. Rounding every 7.5 minutes is expected. Acting as a 1:1 sitter is included in responsibilities. Participation in physical holds will be necessary, using the least restrictive measure appropriate. Obtaining EKGs may be required if needed. General skills required include punctuality, positive attitude, and flexibility. Support within the department includes a director of nursing, nurse manager, and charge nurse availability. House administrator is available overnight and on weekends. Staff from all units respond to patient escalations. Electronic medical records will be used in this role. Seclusion rooms and chair restraints are available equipment. May float to the adult unit as needed. Weekend rotation is every other weekend. Working holidays is expected in rotation. Requests for time off will go through the manager. Scheduling includes modified self-scheduling where shifts will be reviewed for coverage. Scrub color is any solid, professional color. Unit culture emphasizes teamwork and support among all staff members.
