Benefits are available. Schedule: 3rd shift, 10:30 pm–7:00 am, rotating weekends and holidays. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collect and store specimens according to established procedures; properly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection (e.g., urine or fecal) as required; demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles; fully understand all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correct. Package specimens for transport; store specimen samples according to required temperature; place samples in appropriate collection container; accurately label; follow different procedures as outlined by protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity; understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations; attend annual department trainings; answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment as required in some states. Minimum of 6 months work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting. Minimum of 2 years of experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
