Histotechnician PositionThe Histotechnician is responsible for the preparation of tissue specimens for microscopic examination by the pathologist. This role performs a variety of histology procedures including grossing assistance, fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining of tissue samples. The Histotechnician ensures high-quality, accurate, and timely specimen preparation in compliance with laboratory policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. The position also supports immunohistochemistry processes, equipment maintenance, and quality assurance activities to ensure optimal diagnostic outcomes and efficient laboratory operations.This individual:Prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination, including fixation, processing, embedding, and microtomyPerform routine and special staining procedures according to established protocolsAssist with immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining and related procedures as applicableEnsure proper specimen identification, labeling, and tracking throughout all stages of processingMaintain quality and integrity of tissue samples to support accurate diagnosisOperate, maintain, and troubleshoot histology equipment such as microtomes, processors, and stainersAdhere to laboratory policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, including infection control practicesMaintain documentation, logs, and records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards (CAP, CLIA, TJC)Perform quality control and participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activitiesManage workflow to meet turnaround time expectations and prioritize urgent specimensAssist with inventory management, including ordering and stocking of supplies and reagentsEnsure proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with safety regulationsCollaborate with pathologists, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals to support patient careMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentParticipate in continuing education and competency assessmentsPerform additional duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director or ManagerEDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING1. Associate's degree in biological, chemical, or clinical laboratory science with at least two years histotechnology on the job training, or completion of a histotechnology program required.2. HT/ASCP Certification, or equivalent, preferred.3. A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes estimated wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $29.00 to $39.03.
