We’re seeking a Safety Specialist to support the execution and sustainment of Civil Air Patrol’s (CAP) enterprise Safety Management System (SMS) by providing analytical, administrative, and coordination support across aviation safety, ground safety, and occupational safety and health (OSH) programs. The position assists Safety leadership in maintaining data integrity, tracking hazards and corrective actions, and ensuring safety processes are properly documented and consistently applied across organizational operations. What You’ll Do Provides day-to-day program support to Aviation Safety and Ground Safety managers in support of the organization’s Safety Management System (SMS). Maintains and updates safety records, reports, and documentation within approved safety data systems and incident reporting platforms. Tracks safety reports, hazard submissions, investigations, and corrective actions to support timely resolution and program effectiveness. Coordinates information between headquarters, field units, and program stakeholders to support consistent application of safety policies and procedures. Monitors and tracks safety performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to support leadership visibility and decision‑making. Identifies administrative or process gaps and provides recommendations to support continuous improvement initiatives. Supervisory Responsibilities None What We’re Looking For Associate’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Aviation Safety, Risk Management, or related field preferred. Experience supporting safety, compliance, risk management, or program coordination activities. Basic understanding of safety risk management principles, hazard identification, and incident reporting processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently and support geographically dispersed teams. Experience supporting Aviation Safety, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), or Safety Management System (SMS) programs preferred. Familiarity with safety data systems and incident reporting tools used for tracking hazards, events, and corrective actions preferred. Experience supporting safety investigations, audits, or trend analysis activities preferred. Knowledge of applicable regulatory frameworks (e.g., FAA, OSHA, or equivalent industry standards) preferred.
