Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position on a 25-bed Neuro/General Surgery unit at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, working night shifts with a valid SC or compact RN license required.

Details

• Position is based in a 25-bed mixed Neuro/General Surgery unit (8W) serving neurosurgery and general surgery patients, with or without a stepdown component
• Work setting is a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated teaching hospital with 820 staffed beds
• Patient ratio is 1:5, dependent on staffing
• Shift is nights, 7p–7:30a, 3x12-hour shifts per week (36 hours/week)
• Requires 3–4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holiday rotation is required
• Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required
• Charting system is Epic

Requirements

• Active SC RN license or compact/multi-state RN license required; candidates with a pending SC license may be considered, but must be fully licensed before starting
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required
• ACLS and NIHSS certifications preferred (AHA-issued)
• Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg RN experience required
• Neuro experience preferred
• SSN and valid driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration

Additional Information

• Care responsibilities include neurological and general surgery patients, including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery care, peripheral line management, oxygen administration, and use of rapid response/code teams
• Isolation precautions/PPE and computerized documentation are part of daily practice
• Online modules are required to be completed prior to start
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous permanent or PRN staff of the health system must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible to return as a traveler
• Non-local candidates are prioritized; local candidates (within 60 miles) may be considered on a case-by-case basis
• Scrub color requirement: solid royal blue or white top with royal blue bottoms
• Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season (June–November), all staff and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams; peak activity months are August and September
• Requested time off of more than 7 days or including holidays requires facility approval and may delay the process
