Position Summary Assists in performance of simple nursing procedures and provides routine care for facility patients and residents. Is directly responsible to the DON, Care Plan/MDS Coordinator and/or Charge Nurse. Job Title: Certified Nurse Aide FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Department: Senior Living Center Rate: $18.00 - $26.22 per hour Status: Full-Time, Part-Time, or PRN Shift: Day or Night Essential Job Functions Assist Charge Nurse in basic nursing procedures, as assigned or directed. Provide care and assistance with basic activities of daily living for residents, to include baths, toileting, dressing, feeding, ambulating/transferring of residents, etc. Take & document vital signs as directed and report abnormal results directly to Charge Nurse. Provide safe, comfortable environment for residents, reporting any concerns to Charge Nurse. Daily complete ADL records, bath sheets, and MDS supporting documentation, reporting any skin concerns noted during resident bath, etc., directly to Charge Nurse. Share in the orientation process of new nurse aides and medication aides, as assigned. Responsible to be at work according to the work schedule, & attend daily report prior to the start of the work shift. Demonstrate positive attitude of customer service. Education & Experience Have acquired at least 40 hours of instruction in a Certified Nurse Aide class, enabling a job as a Nurse Aide Trainee II, working under the direction of a nurse and CNA or CMA. This requires a copy of the AIT II’s 40‑hour checklist signed by instructor of the nurse aide course, indicating the AIT has good understanding of basic nursing care. Certified Nurse Aides have completed a 90‑hour CNA class and carry a CNA certificate from the Department of Health and Environment. Prior to hiring, the facility must call the Nurse Aide Registry and the nurse aide must have no record of abuse or neglect. Previous nurse aide experience is preferred but not required. The facility will further train the nurse aide who has completed the CNA class. Must have acceptable KBI record check. Skills The nurse aide must show evidence of knowledge and ability to use recognized channels of communication. Must demonstrate an understanding of basic nursing skills to include taking temperatures, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and weighing patients. Must be able to perform basic hygiene care. Must have current CPR card or to obtain soon after employment. Equipment To Be Used Weight Scales, bed and chair type, mechanical lifts, Hoyer and standing lift, bathing facilities, shower, tub, and whirlpool, Vital Signs equipment: B/P cuff, stethoscope, thermometer, wheel chair operation (applying brakes, etc.), Gait belt use for ambulation and transfers Typical Mental/Physical Demands Appreciation of the value of professional nursing in the care of the patient and willingness to accept close supervision and adhere to instructions issued by immediate authority, adhere to this facility’s dress code, show evidence of knowledge and ability to use recognized channels of communication, demonstrate dependability by maintenance of optimum physical and emotional well-being, demonstrate tact, courtesy, and a pleasing manner, demonstrate effectual working relationships with co-workers, in a team-work, helpful manner, willingness to perform a variety of simple routine duties, willingness to work with realization that errors in performance and judgment may have serious consequences, must be able to lift, using proper body mechanics to avoid personal injury at least 100-150 pounds. The Nurse Aide is flexible and helpful and can expect the same consideration of co-workers. Working Conditions The Nurse Aide works directly with the resident, as an important part of the nursing team, meeting prior to the start of each shift with co-workers to exchange appropriate information learned in the last 24 hrs about the resident(s). The employee works in an environment with biological, chemical and mechanical hazards. The employer will provide appropriate training, protective equipment and engineering controls for the protection and safety of the employee.
