Position Maintenance Superintendent Job Code MOMNM3 + Mgr I, Maintenance Location Battle Creek, MI The Opportunity The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for leading the safe, reliable, and cost-effective execution of all maintenance activities and oversight of all maintenance employees across all shifts on a day-to-day basis. This role drives operational excellence through disciplined execution of the maintenance work process, reliability-centered practices, workforce development, and strong cross-functional alignment with Operations, Engineering, and Reliability teams. The Maintenance Superintendent establishes clear expectations for safety, reliability, planning, scheduling, precision maintenance, and craftsmanship while fostering a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement. The position ensures maintenance resources are effectively deployed to improve asset availability, reduce unplanned downtime, optimize maintenance costs, and support production objectives. This role serves as a key leader in building a proactive maintenance culture focused on reliability, precision execution, operational discipline, and employee engagement. How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock Lead all maintenance activities with a safety-first mindset and reinforce compliance with all company safety policies and procedures. Monitor maintenance craftsmanship to enforce compliance, efficiency, and proper use of parts and equipment according to preferred maintenance practices Review progression of operations and scheduled jobs to minimize break-ins Ensure craftsmen adhere to precision maintenance practices/procedures to minimize downtown and to maximize equipment operations Oversee the allocation and planning of resources to ensure maximum effectiveness and increase operating efficiency Conduct preventive monitoring of the departmental budget to control maintenance expenditures and inform annual budget forecasts Lead maintenance teams in the areas of maintenance, continuous process improvement and process control and ensure business priorities and objectives are met Schedule work to maximize task completion with minimal plant disruption; reduce unscheduled downtime while lowering costs and creating higher plant efficiency Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement Alignment with Smurfit Westrock's values of safety, loyalty, integrity and respect Required Qualifications What You Need to Succeed Experience with CMMS systems such as JDE, SAP, Maximo, or similar maintenance management platforms. Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, precision maintenance, and reliability principles. Working knowledge of industrial maintenance systems, rotating equipment, fixed equipment, utilities, and process systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience interpreting maintenance KPIs, reliability metrics, and operational performance data. Understanding planning and scheduling best practices within a manufacturing environment 8 to 10 years of Paper Mill Maintenance experience or related 6 to 8 years of Maintenance or Engineering experience in Manufacturing Preferred Qualifications Technical degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field Precision Maintenance experience What We Offer Corporate culture based on integrity, respect, accountability, and excellence.
