Hematology Physician Scientist

Assistant Professor

The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care seeks a physician scientist, MD or MD/PhD, in clinical, translational or basic science research to join our team. The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division and obtain/maintain independent extramural funding.

• This position is full or part time, 80%-100%

• This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location.

• This position has been identified as a position of trust with access to vulnerable populations.

• The selected candidate will be required to pass an initial caregiver check to be eligible for employment under the Wisconsin Caregiver Law and every four years.

• Applicants for this position will be considered for the titles: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor on the tenure track.

The Division of Hematology, Medical Oncology and Palliative Care at UW-Madison includes over 60 faculty, more than 40 Advanced Practice Providers, and 16 Fellows. The division's faculty lead cutting-edge basic and translational research programs in classical and malignant hematology, cellular therapy, cancer biology, cancer prevention and screening and medical oncology. The Division of Hematology/Medical Oncology & Palliative Care is part of the Department of Medicine and the NCI-designated UW Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Division is active in all phases of cancer research, from prevention, screening, cancer therapy, development and evaluation, survivorship and palliative care.

The candidate will have also access to many shared resources and opportunities to collaborate with basic, translational and clinical researchers at the NCI-designated UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC), the VA Hospital and throughout the UW-Madison campus. Administrative duties including e-Consults, committees and community service may be added as appropriate to the interests of the successful candidate.

Compensation: Negotiable; 12 months

• Board certification or board eligibility in Hematology/Oncology or Medical Oncology is required by the appointment start date.

• American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Certification required.

• Candidate is required to have a Wisconsin medical license by the appointment start date.

• Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges by the appointment start date.

• Experience in an academic medical setting preferred.

• For an appointment as tenure track faculty, candidates will meet criteria established by the department and as outlined in the School of Medicine and Public Health guidelines on the tenure track.

• Research and clinical responsibilities with interest in hematologic conditions.

• Experience in clinical, translational or basic science research, with a track record of successful publications in peer reviewed journals, strong written and verbal communication skills and evidence of excellence in teaching. The physician scientist will be expected to engage in active collaborative research and build clinical and/or translational research in the division, as well as obtain/maintain independent extramural funding. Through these efforts, the ability to enhance national recognition for our division and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center.
