"Peer support rooted in dignity, understanding, and empowerment." *** $1,000 sign on bonus- available after 60 days****Position Primary Purpose:The Peer Support Specialist is pivotal in facilitating clients' journey towards recovery from chemical dependence. This role involves delivering empathetic support, practical advice, and guidance to enhance clients' independence. Services are rendered across diverse community settings, tailoring support to each client's unique challenges and recovery milestones. Essential Functions:Provide clients with essential information on the recovery process, symptom management, and available resources to aid their rehabilitation and self-determination.Serve as the primary point of contact for client needs, services, and relapse management, ensuring swift and effective response to emergencies.Advocate on behalf of individuals to ensure their needs are met and their rights are upheld within various service frameworks.Manage long-term case management, including maintaining case notes, staying updated with Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs), and collaborating with providers on treatment plans.Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all required credentials and continuing education necessary for the role to ensure compliance and professional development.Transport clients to community engagement activities, supporting their integration and participation in social settings.Encourage and support clients in living independently, including assisting them in developing necessary life skills.Participate in outreach services tailored to the specific needs of the community, focusing on underserved populations.All other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Key Competencies:Skilled in client advocacy, case management, and adhering to Oregon Administrative Rules.Quick and effective in managing client crises and acting as the primary contact for support needs.Dedicated to professional growth, maintaining credentials, and continuous education.Adept at transporting clients and encouraging their community engagement.Capable of supporting clients in achieving independence and daily life skills.Proficient in maintaining professional boundaries and staying composed under stress.Skilled in using Electronic Health Records and delivering clear, effective communication. Minimum Requirements and Education:High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or higher in a related field preferred.Completion of Addiction Mental Health (AMH) approved training for Peer Support.Valid and current certification as a Recovery Mentor or Traditional Health Worker, as recognized by the State of Oregon.Must be an individual in personal recovery from substance use or mental health issues, willing to self-identify as a peer and assist others with chemical dependency and/or mental health challenges.Minimum of two (2) years of abstinence from all psychoactive substances for individuals with a history of substance abuse.Possession of a current and valid Oregon driver's license and a clean driving record. Preferred Qualifications:Registered with the Oregon Health Authority as a Traditional Health Worker (peer support).Bilingual proficiency.Willingness to register with the Mental Health and Addiction Certification Board of Oregon (MHACBO) as a Certified Recovery Mentor or willing to register.Willingness to obtain dual credential as a mental health peer.A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the non-profit or human services field.Experience serving diverse and/or marginalized populations.Experience in reporting data into data systems.CompensationThis position is a non-union, full-time position, with an hourly wage D.O.E.
