Responsibilities Directly supervise and manage the operations of security staff and inmates/residents on the shift, ensuring proper performance of duties. Provide adequate staffing in supervised areas; fill in as needed during periods of short staffing. Engage and participate in recruiting, hiring, orientating staff, and other staffing needs in supervised areas. Make recommendations concerning personnel matters and assist in the effective management of facility resources. Qualifications High school diploma, GED certification, or equivalent is required. Three years of experience in a criminal justice field or other acceptable related field, which includes at least two years in a supervisory capacity. Additional education may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis. Must be certified in the discipline of Corrections through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and in good standing; or must meet the FDLE eligibility guidelines and become a Certified Correctional Officer in accordance with the process defined by subsection 1 1B-27.002 F.A.C. Must be available to work any hours or any shift. Completion of basic pre-service correctional officer training and, where applicable, be a commissioned security officer licensed by the state of employment. Must demonstrate knowledge of the practices and principles of correctional facility management; pertinent corrections laws, rules and regulations; and the principles and practices of supervision and training.
