Position Summary Visiting Research Specialist, as part of the Peer Harm Reduction Support Champion Intervention Study, will engage in research activities. This includes interviewing research participants and collecting interview data. The study is a CDC-funded project that trains people who do not use drugs but know someone who does, to help that person access harm reduction tools and services, increasing access and reducing overdose risk. Duties & Responsibilities Conduct interviews with research participants (people who use drugs and their peers) Collect, record, and analyze interview data Recruit and screen prospective research participants Perform participant enrollment activities, including informed consent procedures Conduct data quality and entry checks Monitor participants for signs of distress Assist with scheduling interviews Assist participants with referrals to available community services Train participants on recruiting their peers to the study Perform related duties and special projects as assigned Minimum Qualifications Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in social science or a related field (Master’s preferred) Minimum of 3 years of related research experience Advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices, and methods Minimum of 3 years of professional experience working with people who use drugs/have substance use disorder Minimum of 3 years of professional experience recording data (research, medical, or case management) Availability to work one evening per week Preferred Qualifications Minimum of five years’ experience recruiting or interviewing research participants Experience living or working in the Austin or West Garfield Park neighborhoods The University of Illinois System is an equal opportunity employer, including but not limited to disability and/or veteran status, and complies with all applicable state and federal employment mandates.
