Human Resources Assistant

Progress Industries is hiring a Human Resources Assistant to support recruiting and training across our Newton and Des Moines locations (onsite). This role blends candidate coordination, onboarding and orientation support, training compliance follow-up, and essential HR administration, with the front-desk responsibilities that keep the office running smoothly. Location: Newton, IA (onsite) Schedule: In person, expected 40.0 hours/week Pay: From $18.00/hour What you’ll do Keep job postings current and actively connect with candidates through Indeed and other recruitment channels. Review applications, screen applicants, coordinate and participate in interviews, and communicate with candidates throughout the hiring process. Support recruitment events and keep hiring managers informed on candidate and interview activity. Coordinate background checks, credential verification, employment eligibility paperwork, and new-hire onboarding. Partner with the Training Specialist to monitor overdue and upcoming training requirements and follow up on deadlines. Enter quizzes, results, and training completions into the learning management system and maintain accurate records. Lead the HR portion of New Employee Orientation and help prepare training materials and new-hire paperwork. Assist with medication management proctoring or related training activities after required qualification and authorization. Complete monthly HR audits , exclusion checks, and ongoing verification of required employee credentials and records. Support HR administrative projects including personnel files and employee evaluation reminders. Provide friendly, professional front-desk coverage: greet visitors, answer and direct phone calls, and support office operations. Assist with mail, supplies, filing, and other clerical duties as assigned. What you bring High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or additional education preferred. At least 1 year of customer service, office, recruiting, or related experience; recruiting or HR experience is a plus. Excellent communication skills and confidence speaking with applicants, employees, and managers. Strong attention to detail, ability to manage deadlines, consistent follow-up, and commitment to confidentiality. Comfort with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel ; experience with Indeed, HR systems, or Relias is helpful but not required. A collaborative, dependable approach with a genuine interest in helping others succeed.
