Executive Director

Sisters Transportation and Ride Share

STARS is a high performing, volunteer-led nonprofit providing free, door-to-door, round-trip, non-emergency medical rides for residents of Sisters Country which include residents in Sisters, Black Butte Ranch, and Camp Sherman.

Since 2020, STARS has delivered over 3,000 rides across more than 126,000 miles, ensuring older adults, people with disabilities, veterans, and underserved neighbors can access essential healthcare. With annual demand growing in double digits and the community continuing to age, STARS is transitioning from a fully volunteer-run organization to adding professional leadership.

We are seeking our first paid Executive Director to lead STARS into its next phase of sustainability, capacity building, and strategic growth. This is a unique opportunity to guide a beloved, community-based organization that keeps Sisters healthy, connected, and independent one ride at a time.

Position Overview

The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of STARS and reports to the Board of Directors. The ED is responsible for overall leadership, operational excellence, financial stewardship, volunteer engagement, and community partnerships. The ideal candidate is mission-driven, highly organized, comfortable in a small nonprofit environment, and skilled at balancing strategy with day-to-day operations.

  • Passion for STARS’ mission of improving healthcare access through volunteer transportation.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Experience in nonprofit management areas such as volunteer coordination, fundraising, grant writing and community outreach.
  • Basic financial literacy and ability to manage budgets and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit compliance, employment regulations, and tax reporting (or willingness to learn).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of older adults, people with disabilities, and rural residents.
  • Experience building partnerships with community stakeholders and public agencies.
  • Conflict resolution and team-building skills.
  • Comfort using spreadsheets and donor/volunteer management software (or willingness to learn).

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Reliable transportation and valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • Must pass DMV and criminal background check.
  • Commitment to professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and respect for passengers and volunteers.
