Speech And Language Pathology Assistant

Under the supervision and evaluation of a Special Education Administrator or designee and direction of Speech and Language Pathologist, the Speech and Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) assists in supplementing, enhancing, and extending speech/language therapy services by completing a variety of tasks such as, but not limited to, direct activities with students designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, use of assistive technology devices for communication, monitors sessions, enters data for session management and Medi-Cal billing, as well as performs other general support duties in support of the speech language pathology program. The SLPA serves students who have identified speech and language disorders and may have other disabilities as well.

Education and Qualifications: Graduation from a high school or evidence of equivalent educational proficiency. Completion of a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant program or bachelor's degree in speech language pathology or communication disorders and six months experience working with individuals in an educational or learning environment, preferably individuals with speech and language disabilities. Valid California State license as Speech-Language Pathology Assistant by the California Speech Language and Audiology Board. Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and the use of a personal automobile with appropriate insurance limits. Possession of a current certificate of proficiency in CPR and first aid, or a certificate in Basic Life Support, Healthcare Providers (BLS) is desirable.
