Production Supervisor

The Production Supervisor oversees and coordinates daily production operations to ensure all goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met. This role facilitates production needs, leads and motivates a team of operators, and ensures efficient use of materials and equipment while maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant food manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise day-to-day production operations to ensure production goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are achieved.
• Facilitate production needs across the facility and oversee workflow to maintain efficient, continuous operations.
• Use the IFS ERP system to assign production schedules, manage line coverage, and coordinate employee breaks and lunches.
• Reassign work and coordinate tasks when production lines are down, including cleaning lines and manifolds as needed.
• Assist operators with product-related issues and provide guidance to resolve production problems quickly.
• Monitor raw material requirements within the IFS ERP system, order materials from in-house supply, and follow up on requisitions to ensure materials are received, available, assigned, and back-flushed correctly.
• Report production output, downtime, and shift-related issues in Redzone and ensure accurate documentation of all events.
• Ensure adherence to company policies and enforce food safety and employee safety regulations at all times.
• Address employee relations issues promptly and effectively, including issuing corrective actions when appropriate.
• Coordinate the production flow between different departments within the facility to optimize efficiency and throughput.
• Ensure proper start-up and shut-down procedures are followed for all production lines and equipment.
• Maintain product quality through proper sanitation, housekeeping, and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
• Collaborate with the Quality Assurance department to ensure products are produced within specifications and quality standards.
• Motivate and engage employees to improve efficiencies and meet production targets and expectations.
• Communicate mechanical and process issues in Redzone to the appropriate personnel and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
• Contact management and contractors regarding major equipment breakdowns or repairs and coordinate necessary actions.
• Investigate workplace accidents as needed and complete accident reports in accordance with company procedures.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, including process improvement and lean manufacturing efforts, to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

Essential Skills:

• Strong supervisory and leadership skills with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Hands-on experience in food production with knowledge of Foods/GMP and food safety practices.
• Demonstrated experience in production supervision and production management, including coordinating teams and managing workflows.
• Mechanical knowledge, including experience with high-speed packaging machinery in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in a union environment and the ability to operate effectively within union guidelines and processes.
• Proficiency with PC-based applications, including Word and Excel, and familiarity with order-processing systems.
• Ability to use ERP systems such as IFS to manage schedules, materials, and production data.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey instructions, provide feedback, and collaborate across departments.
• Proven ability to enforce safety and GMP standards and maintain a clean, organized production environment.
• Demonstrated capability to drive continuous improvement and process optimization within a production setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

• Experience with Foods/GMP in a food manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Experience in process improvement, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing methodologies.
• A four-year college degree is preferred, particularly in a related field such as operations, engineering, or business.
• Experience using Redzone or similar production reporting and communication tools.
• Ability to manage employee relations issues, including performance management and corrective actions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly to mechanical, process, and production challenges.
• Comfort working cross-functionally with Quality Assurance and other departments to ensure product specifications are met.

Work Environment:

This role is based in a food manufacturing environment on the third shift, working Monday through Friday from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. The facility is very clean and generally comfortable, though it can become somewhat hot and a little loud at times due to production activity. The site operates with approximately 60 employees at the Bensenville location and about 60 employees at the Elk Grove Village location, offering a collaborative environment where production, quality, and maintenance teams work closely together. Employees work around high-speed packaging machinery, follow strict sanitation and GMP procedures, and use systems such as IFS ERP and Redzone to manage operations and communicate issues.

Job Type & Location:

This is a Permanent position based out of Bensenville, IL.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $67000.00 - $73000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
