Position Overview As a Lead Fleet Diesel Mechanic with Stepp’s Towing & Heavy Transport, you’ll play a vital role in keeping Tampa’s roads moving safely and reliably. Your expertise in diagnostics and heavy equipment maintenance will ensure our trucks and equipment are always ready for the job. In this lead role, you will also have opportunities to mentor fellow mechanics, provide technical guidance, and support workflow management. If you’re an experienced diesel mechanic with strong diagnostic skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to quality work, we’d like to hear from you. Essential Functions Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on diesel vehicles (including heavy trucks and other equipment) Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions related to engines, transmissions, clutches, suspension, steering, and more Oversee and mentor other team members, provide technical guidance, and assist with scheduling and workflow management Conduct routine preventive maintenance tasks, such as oil changes Inspect vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operation Test drive vehicles (must be able to operate manual transmissions) Accurately document issues found and repair steps taken Ensure all work meets safety and company standards Required Skills & Qualifications Prior experience as a Fleet Diesel Mechanic is required Diagnostics experience is a must Must have your own tools Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred) Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles is required Clean driving record for the past 3 years Must pass a background check and drug test Strong communication skills Pay $35 to $40 per hour Schedule Monday to Friday, 7:00 am - 5:00 pm (After-hours emergency calls as needed) Benefits 6 Paid Holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas) Medical, dental, and vision coverage; free term life insurance Paid Time Off (accruals start on day 1; available after 90 days) 401(k) match up to 4% Regular pay increases and career development opportunities Accident, cancer/critical illness, short-term and long-term disability, and hospital indemnity insurance available Chasing the Dream, Not the Competition.
