Trauma/Acute Care Surgeon Opportunity
Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center is a reputable Level III Trauma Center with an established Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service committed to providing exceptional care. Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, evidence-based trauma and emergency general surgical care while fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Trauma/Acute Care Surgeon to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in trauma, emergency general surgery (EGS), and surgical critical care and will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and quality improvement initiatives. This role will involve covering call shifts as part of the Trauma/Acute Care Surgery team. Please see the essential job functions below.
Practice Information
- 154 licensed beds with a 20-bed CCU
- Level III Trauma Center, verified by the American College of Surgeons and designated as a State Area Trauma Hospital in September 2024
- ED volume of approximately 35,000 visits per year
- 20-bed ED with the ability to expand to 28 beds using hallway capacity
- Approximately 1,000 trauma registry patients per year (93% blunt)
- Approximately 475 trauma admissions to the Acute Care Surgery service annually
- Recently established EGS database, active performance improvement (PI) projects, and quarterly Peer Review meetings
- Approximately 600 EGS cases performed by the service in the last year
- Dedicated Trauma/EGS OR block Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM5:00 PM
- Dedicated Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) coverage, with at least two APCs on weekdays and one APC on weekends
- 24/7 Hospital Medicine, Critical Care, Gastroenterology (including 24/7 ERCP coverage), and Interventional Radiology services
- 24/7 Nephrology coverage with hemodialysis (HD) and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) available
- 24/7 in-house Anesthesiology coverage
- 24/7 Spine coverage
- Recently established Neurosurgery Program with 24/7 coverage
- Board-certified Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon with comprehensive orthopedic trauma program development anticipated in January 2027
- Potential access to robotic surgery for EGS cases
Minimum Qualifications
- Board certification in General Surgery
- Unrestricted Montana MD or DO license or the ability to obtain an unrestricted license
- ATLS certification with continued maintenance of certification
- Previous experience in Trauma and Emergency General Surgery
Preferred Qualifications
- Board certification in Surgical Critical Care
- Potential to serve as an ATLS instructor
Essential Job Functions
- Responsible for all trauma and emergency general surgery consults from the Emergency Department
- Responsible for inpatient consults from Hospitalists, Intensivists, Gynecology, Urology, and other services
- Responsible for consults and transfers from surrounding hospitals and clinics, with the majority coordinated through the Bozeman Health Access Center
- Direct rounds and management of the inpatient Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Service in collaboration with the APC team
- Responsible for the Trauma/Acute Care Surgery Clinic, which is held two half-days per week and is covered by the on-call provider in conjunction with the APCs
