Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Main Hospital - New Brunswick

Department: Children’s Oncology

Job Status: Hourly

Shift: Night

Compensation Range: $47.85 - $71.72 per hour

Pay Transparency: This range represents the expected hourly wage for this role in New Jersey.

The final salary for the selected candidate will be influenced by various factors, including educational qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Must be a graduate from an accredited nursing program.
• Current licensure to practice nursing in New Jersey or eligibility for licensure.
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory.
• PALS/ACLS certification is required.
• Prior experience in Acute Care is preferred.

Work Environment and Hazards

• Potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and unpleasant odors.
• Risk of exposure to infections and communicable diseases.
• Possible contact with hazardous materials.

Physical Demands

Applicants must possess the physical ability to reach, push, pull, lift, walk, and stand for the majority of the shift. The role requires functioning effectively in rapidly changing and high-stress situations.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Advocacy: Create a healing environment by offering both traditional and personalized comfort measures.
• Support patients and families by providing information and facilitating goal-setting.
• Teaching and Coaching: Assess patient readiness for learning, develop individualized teaching plans, and document outcomes.
• Communicate conditions and rationales to meet patient and family needs.
• Emergency Management: Respond effectively to life-threatening situations by identifying emergencies, initiating interventions, and documenting results.
• Diagnostic and Monitoring: Accurately observe and document significant changes in patients’ conditions, ensuring appropriate nursing care based on detailed assessments.
• Therapeutic Interventions: Perform and adapt procedures as required, administer medications safely, and document according to established standards.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure safe patient care by collaborating with healthcare team members and participating in quality monitoring activities.
• Attend performance improvement meetings to identify and enhance care quality.
• Team Collaboration: Assist team members and adapt to the evolving needs of the unit.

• Adhere to established policies and maintain high care standards for patients and families.
• Demonstrate cooperation and flexibility with team members.
• Participate in mandatory training and continuing education (30 hours bi-annually).
• Comply with patient safety initiatives and infection prevention protocols.
• Report any errors or high-risk events to the appropriate supervisor.
