Retail & Community Marketing Associate (Part-Time) Modern Companion is a boutique pet shop in Chapin built around community, creativity, and helping pet parents find products they truly love for their pets. We're not a big box store. Many of our customers are regulars, we know their pets by name, and we put a lot of effort into making the shop feel welcoming and personal. Events, experiences, and creative promotions are also a huge part of how we grow. From themed gatherings to in-store experiences, these moments give pet parents a reason to visit the shop and help us build a strong local community. For the past three years, my Marketing & Events Coordinator helped run the store, keep our marketing consistent, and bring those experiences to life. She recently stepped away to pursue her own pet business full time, which has created an opportunity for someone new to step into the role. I'm now looking for someone who wants to grow with the business, bring fresh ideas and energy, and help continue building the Modern Companion community. A big part of this role is helping bring people through the door. That means thinking creatively about promotions, events, and ways to engage the local pet community, not just running the store day to day. This role tends to attract people who enjoy both interacting with customers and thinking creatively about how to grow a small business. Many people who thrive in this role have experience in boutique retail, hospitality, marketing, communications, events, or other customer-focused environments. About The Role: Part of this role is running the store during scheduled hours and making sure customers have a great experience when they visit. Day-to-day responsibilities include: Helping customers find products for their pets Operating checkout and handling daily store operations Keeping the shop organized, clean, and well stocked Pulling and packing online orders when needed The other part of this role is moving our marketing and events forward. This is an important part of the role, as we are always looking for creative ways to bring new customers into the shop and keep our community engaged. That may include: Writing social captions or short promotional posts or emails Brainstorming ideas to bring more customers through the door Preparing for upcoming events Assisting with event setup and day-of support Events are planned in advance and are a fun and important part of how we build community around the shop. What success looks like in this role Someone who thrives in this role helps the store feel welcoming, organized, and exciting for customers. Success looks like: Customers feeling welcomed and excited about their visit The shop staying organized and running smoothly Creative promotions or ideas helping bring new customers in Events feeling organized and enjoyable for guests Marketing tasks being completed consistently Over time, the right person will grow comfortable running the store independently and contributing ideas that help the business continue to grow. Some days are busy helping customers, while other moments allow time to think creatively about promotions, events, or new ways to bring people into the shop. Schedule & Pay This is an in-person position located in Chapin, SC. The role requires 2-3 days per week from 11-4, plus occasional Saturdays or Sundays for events (planned in advance).
