Position: Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner - Emergency Medicine Talent Area: Advanced Practice Providers Full/Part Time: Full time Department: WOO APP PHM / EC Shift: 7a-7p, 10a-10p and 1p-1a Job ID: 424378 We are searching for a Physician Assistant or a Nurse Practitioner who is motivated to work in an exciting pediatric setting! In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide developmentally appropriate and age‑appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions. The NP or PA works under a delineation of clinical privileges and will work collaboratively with other members of the health‑care team. Practice under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the APP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. Job duties are performed in a manner that is developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served. As an advanced practice provider, the NP or PA is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels. Qualifications: Required Bachelor's Degree PA Certification: Physician Assistant by the Texas Medical Board Master’s degree in nursing required RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing required Pediatric experience strongly preferred Responsibilities: Provide medical services within the education and training of the Physician Assistant within the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician Obtain a comprehensive health, developmental, and family history on patients and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings and document appropriately in the patient’s medical record Prescribe or administer medications as delegated by the supervising physician and document in medical records Administer appropriate vaccines as observed by physicians and documented in medical records Order diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data as evidenced by types of tests ordered Foster collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to improve health care Establish a relationship with the patient/family characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration Daily use advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients’ caseload Assess the patient’s physical status through the physical examination and document in the patient’s medical record Differentiates between normal and abnormal findings and document in the medical record Perform or recommend age‑appropriate health screening procedures and document in the patient’s medical record Provide health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages and document in the patient’s medical record Perform and evaluate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests and document in the patient’s medical record Analyze multiple sources of data and formulate a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians Follow established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems; formulate a plan of care in collaboration with other health‑care professionals and document the plan Accurately evaluate patient’s responses to interventions and modify the plan of care, demonstrate in written documentation Accurately present and document data, impression, and plan of care on all patients in written documentation Consistently demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers Collaborate effectively with other members of the health‑care disciplines to provide comprehensive care to patients Utilize effective and appropriate interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and/or family and collaborate in developing the care plan Request consultation and/or initiate referral for specialized care as appropriate; communicate with health‑care team members about the comprehensive assessment, impression and plan of care Consistently serve as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health‑care professionals Consistently apply new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice Demonstrate current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills; maintain knowledge base by reading professional literature, attending staff development, and continuing education programs annually Participate in department and hospital committees, which promote quality nursing, care as assigned Demonstrate NP role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice Participate in departmental Quality Improvement program annually All successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards Texas Children’s is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
