Title Graphic Designer, Newcomer Youth Summer Academy Location Hybrid Start Date May 15th, 2026 Duration until August 28th, 2026 Reports To Senior Manager, Education Scope of Work The Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) is a six‑week program focusing on preparing newly arrived refugee youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system. Up to 130 students from ages 5–21 from over 20 countries will participate in academic, creative arts, physical education, and life skills classes. Field trips are held on Fridays. Responsibilities Create assets for NYSA 2026 brand identity that incorporate the annual theme (PRIDE), values (Positivity, Responsibility, Innovation, determination, Empathy) and mascot. This includes a T‑shirt design, slide deck templates, classroom posters and more. Develop concept(s) for the NYSA yearbook design and layout. Produce the design & layout within the timeframe laid out. Insert photos into layout and produce final for printing. Communicate and coordinate regularly with the team to ensure that yearbook‑related activities take place according to schedule, and any scheduling or other conflicts/issues are worked out in a timely manner. Receive and integrate feedback. Work with team to ensure accuracy of all elements of the yearbook (pictures are properly labeled and placed). Attend NYSA training (June 29 – July 2). Provide all files to IRC. Learning Objectives Strengthen expertise in taking a graphic design project from concept to deliverable. Learn about the creative needs of nonprofit humanitarian and social service agencies and how to meet those needs. Practice developing, refining and executing a concept that exemplifies a defined theme and values. Requirements Graphic Designer with at least one year experience. Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills. Flexible, and able to solve problems. Cultural competence and cross‑cultural or overseas experience required. Strong experience with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience working with diverse populations desirable. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team. Consent to the yearbook as being the sole property of the IRC, not to be used by the graphic designer without IRC permission. Must be located in the United States; preference to candidates who can work on site in New York City. Compensation and Benefits Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to U.S.-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
