Senior Software Engineer

Join us in building the systems that turn complex data into better business decisions across the food supply chain, while helping tackle climate change. About Us: Nibbana connects what happens on farms with the decisions made across global food and agriculture supply chains. We bring together farm-level information, complex supply-chain datasets, and data from large multinational companies to create value for farmers, cooperatives, and food businesses. Our approach combines software, data infrastructure, and AI/ML with deep agricultural expertise and hands-on implementation. We turn complex data into actionable insights for farmers and food companies, help producers implement practical changes, and connect verified outcomes to transparent reporting and financial incentives. We’re an early-stage, well-funded climate-tech startup working with industry leaders. We’re building our core platform from the ground up and looking for engineers who want meaningful ownership over both the systems they build and the problems those systems solve. The Role: We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong backend fundamentals, experience working with large, complex datasets, and a track record of shipping reliable production software. This is a hands-on individual contributor role with broad ownership. You’ll build services, APIs, integrations, and processing workflows that bring together data from farms, supply-chain operations, and enterprise systems. The engineering challenge spans scale, messy inputs, different data models, and demanding business requirements. You’ll turn that complexity into reliable systems that make data usable across Nibbana’s platform. What You’ll Do: Build and operate scalable backend services, APIs, and data processing systems across farm, supply-chain, and enterprise data. Develop ingestion pipelines and integrations for large, heterogeneous datasets from operational, environmental, and corporate systems. Design data models and processing workflows that reconcile inconsistent inputs and make data reliable, traceable, and usable. Own projects end-to-end, including architecture, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement. Design for performance, reliability, observability, and data quality. Work closely with product, data, and business teams to clarify requirements, make practical tradeoffs, and deliver working software. Help establish engineering practices for testing, code review, CI/CD, and production operations. What We’re Looking For: 6+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building and operating production systems. Strong backend fundamentals across API design, system architecture, data modeling, asynchronous processing, reliability, and performance. Strong production experience with TypeScript, including strict typing and type-safe design. Experience building backend services with Node.js; Fastify experience is a strong plus. Experience using Python for backend services, data workflows, or internal tooling; FastAPI experience is a plus. Experience building data-intensive systems that process large datasets from multiple sources. Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases. Experience with cloud infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Pulumi. The judgment to navigate ambiguity, make sound tradeoffs, and move quickly while maintaining quality. Nice to Have: Experience with TimescaleDB, time-series data, or analytics-heavy applications. Experience with event-driven systems such as Azure Event Hubs, Kafka, or Pub/Sub. Familiarity with Parquet, data lakes, warehouses, or lakehouse architectures. Experience integrating enterprise systems or working with complex supply-chain data. Experience working with climate, sustainability, or agriculture data. Why Join Nibbana? Build technology that supports measurable environmental progress and business value across the food supply chain. Shape the architecture and engineering foundations of a new platform. Solve substantial data and systems challenges alongside global food and agriculture leaders. Join a small team with substantial ownership, short decision paths, and minimal bureaucracy. Work with a modern stack and an AI-native development culture. We’re looking for someone who enjoys making complex problems tractable - and takes responsibility for delivering systems that customers and teammates can trust. Interested? Get in touch. Learn more:
