Microbiology Supervisor - Eligible for $10,000 Sign-on Bonus

The general supervisor provides day to day oversight and supervision of testing in the high complexity laboratory sections. Laboratory sections including: Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Histology and College of American Pathology (CAP). In addition, the supervisor monitors specimen handling and analysis to guarantee performance of accurate analysis. Performs administrative and supervisory duties as delegated.

General Supervisors assist with oversight of laboratory compliance in respect to standards set forth by the College of American Pathologist (CAP) in order to maintain laboratory accreditation. Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Coordinator and Laboratory Administrative Director and the indirect supervision of the Laboratory Medical Director.

Position Accountabilities

Ability to perform the duties defined under CAP testing personnel: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).

Assists the Laboratory Administrative Director or designee in assisting employee work schedules.

Complies with CAP Accreditation and determines compliance of policies or procedures for standards defined in supervisors section checklist.

Provides guidance and leadership for implementation of changes and/or new policies and procedures necessary to comply with CAP standards.

Assists in identifying areas of failure and works with Clinical Coordinator, Laboratory Administrative Director, Laboratory Medical Director and GHS leadership to bring those failures to compliance.

Coordinates self-inspections and post inspection responses to potential deficiencies.

Interacts with customer service representatives, vendors, service representatives and various others by telephone and on-site, where indicated.

Maintains a current knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations, CAP and TJC standards as they apply to lab procedures and testing.  Follows these practice guidelines and provides needed documentation for Corporate Compliance and billing.

Position Qualifications

Associate’s degree or graduated from a medical laboratory training program and at least two years of laboratory training or experience in high complexity testing.

Five years’ experience as a high-complexity laboratory preferred

Required Licensure: ASCP Board of Certification (BOC): primary source verification for all BOC credentials.
