Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) / Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) works in critical care environments, providing care to patients who are critically ill and in need of constant monitoring. This role includes the use of various medical devices to measure heart rates, breathing rates, blood pressure, and oxygen levels. The LPN/LVN will engage in both bedside care and remote monitoring, ensuring that patients receive appropriate medications and support.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer basic and advanced life support.
• Utilize dysrhythmia monitoring techniques, including interpretation and treatment.
• Calculate medication dosages, monitor patients for medication effects, and manage continuous medication infusion of non-titrated vasoactive agents, anti-arrhythmic agents, platelet inhibitors, and/or insulin.
• Monitor patients utilizing standardized procedures for various pre-, intra-, and post-procedures such as TEE, cardiac catheterization with PCI, cardioversion, bronchoscopy, EGD, PEG placement, and chest tube insertion.
• Recognize symptoms and signs of cardiopulmonary emergencies and initiate standardized interventions to stabilize patients before transfer to critical care.
• Manage hemodynamic monitoring, including equipment setup, troubleshooting, and recognition of patient instability symptoms.
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and effectively communicate findings.
• Assess ventilated patients to ensure prescribed treatments are delivered and monitor patient responses.
• Manage patients requiring non-invasive oxygen delivery systems, including oral airways, BiPAP, and nasal CPAP.
• Oversee long-term mechanical ventilation and weaning processes.
• Assess and manage patients needing renal therapeutic interventions, such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous bladder irrigation, stents, and urostomies.
• Identify indications for and complications of enteral and parenteral nutrition.
• Evaluate family needs to facilitate the transition from hospital to home care.

Qualifications

• Current Missouri LPN or multi-state compact license.
• IV certification.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Strong advocacy skills and clinical judgment.
• Emphasis on caring practices and response to diversity.
• Ability to collaborate and engage in clinical inquiry.
• Capability to educate patients and families regarding care processes and health management.
