Summary: The Senior Bacterial Core Technician supports laboratory operations, manages biological materials, and performs assays in support of studies on vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics targeting bacterial threat agents. Provides senior-level laboratory technical support to the Bacteriology Division’s Core Team, supporting research on bacterial pathogens and countermeasure development. Responsibilities Essential Job Functions: Perform bacterial culture, assay preparation, and specimen handling. Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory. Support GLP-compliant data collection and analysis. Assist in high-containment operations (BSL-2/3). Prepare technical documentation and contribute to SOPs. Perform laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other tasks in fields such as aerobiology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology, bacteriology, molecular or cell biology, veterinary medicine, toxicology, or other scientific discipline. Plan and accomplish goals, participate in or lead development of research work plans, proposals, budgets, and agreements. May function as a study Lead Investigator. Independently read, understand, and execute techniques, procedures, and plans to meet quality standards, national standards of research technical accuracy, and timelines. Record all laboratory procedures and research project data, data analyses, and conclusions in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures. Perform various scientific and administrative tasks. Provide training and mentorship to junior staff. Support laboratory biosafety requirements and space management, in coordination with relevant staff. Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge: Expertise in laboratory safety and aseptic techniques. Proficiency in biological assay procedures (ELISA, PCR). Ability to manage sample tracking and recordkeeping. Experience with a variety of concepts, practices, and procedures in the field. Specialized skills such as aerobiology, clinical pathology, microscopy, histopathology, quality assurance, and good laboratory practice. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, or related field; or significant laboratory experience with an associate degree. Minimum 5+ years in a laboratory research setting. Experience working in biocontainment environments. Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility. Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required. Preferred Qualifications: ACTIVE SECRET clearance preferred. Ph.D. preferred. Pay And Benefits The salary for this position is $60,000 annually.
