Principal Chemist

LGC Biosearch Technologies seeks a Principal Oligonucleotide Chemist to lead product development, synthesis, and process innovation across their Petaluma Innovation Hub. This senior role combines hands-on laboratory work with strategic project leadership, mentorship, and customer collaboration to advance oligonucleotide chemistry capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead oligonucleotide new product development and customer co-creation projects from concept through delivery
- Design and execute synthesis, purification, and analytical characterization methods; troubleshoot complex issues
- Perform hands-on laboratory work including automated and manual oligonucleotide synthesis and characterization
- Develop data-driven experimental strategies and lead technology transfer into operations and manufacturing
- Mentor scientists in oligonucleotide chemistry and foster collaborative, growth-oriented team environment
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Chemical Biology, or related field
- Minimum 15 years industry experience in oligonucleotide synthesis and process development
- Expertise in solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis, modification, and analytical characterization
- Demonstrated project management and cross-functional team leadership capability
- Strong ability to design, optimize, and troubleshoot manufacturing development processes
- Excellent technical communication skills for internal and external audiences
