Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Critical Care Float position requiring a minimum of 3 years of ICU experience, an MA RN license, and comfort floating across all adult ICUs and step-down units.

Details

• Critical Care Float position in a hospital setting, floating across all adult ICUs and step-down units
• Patient population includes complex, multi-system adult ICU cases; travelers will not be assigned to post cardiac surgery, balloon pump, Impella, transplant, or EVD patients
• Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Every other weekend and holiday rotation required
• All call-outs must be made up prior to the end of the assignment
• EMR: Epic (required)
• Contract lengths of 13, 20, or 26 weeks are accepted

Requirements

• Active MA RN license required; conditional MA license accepted if actively working toward permanent licensure
• Certifications required: BLS and ACLS; NIHSS and TCAR preferred
• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience required
• Level I Trauma facility experience required; 5 years preferred
• Charge nurse experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Key required skills include: IV therapy, arterial line management, central and PICC line care, blood product administration, ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, CVVHD/CRRT, continuous IV sedation and paralytics, vasoactive and cardiac drip titration, pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG/ECG
• Two professional references required for consideration, at least one must be from a nurse manager or higher
• Candidates must have a clear nursing license with no prior disciplinary actions

Additional Information

• Candidates must be fully comfortable floating to all adult ICUs; those not comfortable with this requirement should not apply
• Two pass/fail exams are administered at orientation: a medication exam and a telemetry/EKG exam — each allows only one attempt; failure results in immediate contract cancellation
• Study materials are provided during the compliance process and facility-defined intervals (FDIs)
• Local candidates are accepted; candidates must reside more than 200 miles from the facility to qualify for travel pay rates
• Must have at least a 12-month separation from the health system before returning as a traveler
• RTO requests are minimal; 3–5 days preferred, with no RTO permitted in the first week of the assignment
• Union facility — no special scheduling accommodations can be made; must be available to work all 7 days of the week
• First-time travelers may be considered only if they have extensive ICU experience
