Description: Unit has a total of 40 beds. Patient ratios are 1:5 during days and 1:5-6 during nights. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, heart failure, sepsis, COPD, urologic conditions, surgical cases, and total joint replacements. Teamwork and communication with patient care technicians are essential, focusing on nursing care tasks. Oversight and collaboration with patient care technicians to ensure care tasks are performed according to plan. Charge Nurse and Administrative Supervisor are present on each shift. The Charge Nurse takes 1-2 patients. Patient care technicians are available with varying ratios: 1:8-10 during days, 1:9-10 during evenings, and 1:10-12 during nights. RNs monitor telemetry strips and utilize central telemetry monitoring. Shifts are scheduled from 0700-1930 and 1900-0730. Weekend and holiday shifts are required on a rotational basis. RNs may float to the ICU for overflow patients or to other locations based on staffing needs. Floating notifications occur at least 2 hours prior to the start of the shift. Scrubs required are solid colors with no prints. Regular charting system used is EPIC. BSN is not required for this position.
