Job Description
This role focuses on converting standard trucks and vans into fully equipped work vehicles tailored to the needs of a wide range of customers. You will use mechanical, electrical, and basic construction skills to install and assemble equipment, ensuring each vehicle meets quality, safety, and functional requirements.
Responsibilities
- Convert standard trucks and vans into fully outfitted work vehicles according to customer specifications and technical drawings.
- Perform mechanical assembly of components, fixtures, and equipment using a variety of hand tools and power tools.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and layout drawings to guide installation and assembly work.
- Measure, mark, and cut materials accurately using a tape measure and other measuring tools to ensure precise fit and alignment.
- Install mechanical and basic electrical components as part of vehicle upfitting, following schematics and safety guidelines.
- Apply basic construction techniques to build, mount, and secure shelving, racks, partitions, and other interior or exterior structures.
- Inspect completed assemblies and installations to verify proper operation, alignment, and adherence to quality standards.
- Troubleshoot and adjust assemblies or installations when issues arise, making corrections to meet specifications.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage and care of tools and equipment.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize tasks, meet project deadlines, and support continuous improvement of processes.
- Minimum of 2+ years of recent mechanical building experience in areas such as construction, mechanical assembly, or similar hands-on roles.
- Proficiency in using a tape measure and accurately interpreting measurements.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for mechanical and basic electrical assemblies.
- Hands-on experience using hand tools and basic power tools for mechanical assembly.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort working with vehicle components and upfitting tasks.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work from technical documentation.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise work.
- Experience in construction, fabrication, or vehicle upfitting environments.
- Familiarity with basic electrical work related to vehicle or equipment installations.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
- Good communication skills to coordinate tasks and clarify specifications when needed.

Work Environment
This role is based in a light-duty commercial vehicle upfitting facility that has grown from a small family-owned operation into a premier provider with multiple locations. The environment emphasizes professionalism, integrity, and high-quality service for a diverse customer base, including fleet managers, dealerships, utilities, government agencies, and contractors. You will work in a shop setting using hand tools, power tools, tape measures, and other standard equipment to assemble and install components on trucks and vans. The facility offers an easy-going atmosphere with flexibility around working hours and day-to-day needs, reflecting a culture that values both productivity and work-life balance.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookfield, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
