Job Summary

Lovelace Women's Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for its Medical-Surgical unit. The RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients, administer medications, monitor patient conditions, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, monitor, and document patients' conditions and responses to treatment.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
• Administer medications, including insulin, heparin, and patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), as appropriate.
• Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, peripheral line care, and PICC line management.
• Provide wound care, wound VAC management, and surgical drain care.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately to emergencies and rapid response situations.
• Manage oxygen therapy, nasal cannulas, and other respiratory support within the scope of practice.
• Provide care for patients with renal failure, CVA, and orthopedic conditions, including total joint replacement.
• Manage feeding tubes, colostomies, and ileostomies.
• Follow isolation precautions and infection-control procedures.
• Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, respiratory services, pharmacy, and other healthcare professionals.
• Float to other units within the nurse's scope of practice as required.

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license applicable to the assignment.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred.
• Medical-Surgical nursing experience.
• Experience managing a patient ratio of approximately 1:6.
• Epic electronic medical record (EMR) experience required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• First-time travelers are accepted.

Preferred Clinical Skills

• IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central line management.
• Blood product administration and PICC line management.
• Telemetry monitoring and emergency response.
• Wound care and wound VAC management.
• Oxygen administration and high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC).
• BiPAP/CPAP management.
• Renal failure and pre/post-hemodialysis management.
• Orthopedic care and total joint replacement.
• Feeding tube and ostomy care.

Schedule and Additional Requirements

• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM.
• 36-hour or 48-hour weekly schedule options.
• Every other weekend required.
• Floating required within the nurse's scope of practice.
• Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are not accepted.
• Facility allows 48 hours of straight-time pay, according to the job details.
• Orientation: 12 hours listed in unit details; 36 hours listed as non-billable in the rates section.
