Job Description:

o Maintains medication cart and ensures storage area is clean, neat, and areas are locked if appropriate

o Obtains permission from licensed nurse before administering PRN medication

o Performs the count of non-narcotic countable medications with medication technician or licensed nurse at beginning and end of shift.

o Administers no Schedule II drugs or any sliding scale drugs

o Checks supply of medications for each resident on unit and coordinates with nursing staff for any reorder medication needs

o Takes vital signs, following correct procedure, including apical pulse rates

Reports any significant changes in resident condition or vital signs to Charge Nurse or Supervisor, promptly.

Documents medication administered on MAR per facility policy and procedures.

Must be comfortable working with frequent interruptions.

Ability to work with emotionally upset residents/patients and family members.

Can communicate effectively with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors.

Has a passion for working with long term care residents and skilled rehabilitation patients to provide excellent resident and patient care.

Ability to work independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents/patients, personnel, and support agencies.
