The Board protects and improves the health and safety of working Californians by developing safety standards and regulations, providing consultation and recommendations on the more complex and highly sensitive proposed health regulations, and evaluating petitions to revise regulations as well as requests for permanent variances from safety orders.Under the general direction of the Executive Officer, serves as Supervisor I over the Regulations Unit for the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board (Board). The incumbent is a working level supervisor with responsibility for supervising professional and clerical staff, administers the Board's regulatory program, and provides management advice that impacts Board's policies. The Supervisor I performs the most difficult and sensitive work in areas of program development, policy and coordination which have major impact on the Board's operations and program.
The mission of the Occupational Safety & Health Standards Board (Board) is to promote, adopt, and maintain reasonable and enforceable standards that will ensure a safe and healthful workplace for California workers.
Governed by a seven-member body appointed by the Governor, the Board ensures California's workplace regulations are at least as effective as federal standards. The Standards Board also has the responsibility to grant or deny applications for variances from adopted standards and respond to petitions for new or revised standards. The independent board holds monthly meetings throughout California. The Board is the only agency in the state authorized to adopt, amend or repeal occupational safety and health standards or orders. (L.C.142.3) This position is eligible for telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California.

This position is located at: 2520 Venture Oaks Way, Suite 350, Sacramento, CA 95833. The Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board office located on the 3rd floor.
This is located in a temperature-controlled environment with artificial lighting in a commercial office building. Incumbent will work at a desk and is required to work extensively on computers as necessary for the drafting of letters, briefs and other documents, and for research, email communication, file review, training and other purposes. Incumbent is expected to handle their own word processing and may be required to assist customers on the phone or in person. This is a full-time, Monday through Friday, position, however, Incumbent is expected to work all hours as necessary to accomplish their assignments, and although will generally average a 40-hour week, longer work hours may occasionally be required. There may be occasional overnight travel within the state of California. Telework options may be available in accordance with departmental policy.

Department Information
The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.
