Job Title: Brazing and Mechanical Assembly Technician Job Description

The Brazing and Mechanical Assembly Technician is responsible for assembling and brazing metal components used in the manufacturing of heat transfer products. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow written work instructions and blueprints, and a commitment to producing high-quality products in a safe, fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Assemble metal components according to specifications, blueprints, and detailed work instructions.

• Perform brazing operations using appropriate tools, equipment, and materials, including braze torch, braze rod BCUP 5, and Stay-Silv Brazing Flux.

• Braze header and manifold components both on and off line, ensuring proper joint quality and integrity.

• Braze brass fittings to copper and perform brazing at 180 and 360 degrees with a braze torch.

• Inspect parts and completed assemblies for quality, accuracy, and adherence to production standards.

• Read and interpret basic blueprints, diagrams, and production documents, applying simple arithmetic as needed.

• Use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively, including tape measures and other mechanical tools.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company policies.

• Follow all safety procedures, manufacturing guidelines, and company policies at all times.

• Meet daily production and quality goals while maintaining consistent workmanship.

• Report equipment issues, defects, or safety concerns promptly to supervisory personnel.

• Work independently and collaboratively as part of a production team to support overall manufacturing objectives.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with brazing operations using braze torch and braze rod BCUP 5.

• Ability to use Stay-Silv Brazing Flux correctly and safely during brazing processes.

• Proficiency in brazing 180 and 360 degree joints with a braze torch.

• Ability to braze brass fittings to copper with consistent quality.

• Mechanical assembly skills, including working with metal components and fittings.

• Ability to use various hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and production documents.

• Capability to use a tape measure accurately and apply simple arithmetic in measurements.

• Strong attention to detail and focus on product quality.

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 lbs (non-repetitive), and work in a manufacturing environment for extended periods.

• Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions and adhere to safety procedures.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a large plant environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous manufacturing, assembly, brazing, welding, or metalworking experience preferred.

• Comfort working with mechanical and power tools in a production setting.

• Basic math skills for measurements and simple calculations.

• Strong organizational skills to maintain a clean and efficient work area.

• Demonstrated reliability and ability to meet production and quality targets.

• Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving processes and production requirements.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large plant environment that is not temperature controlled, where conditions can vary with the seasons. Employees are expected to stand and walk for long periods, stoop as needed, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds on a non-repetitive basis. The work involves regular use of hand and power tools, brazing equipment, and measuring devices, with a strong emphasis on safety, cleanliness, and organization in the production area. Attire should be appropriate for an industrial manufacturing setting, supporting both safety and comfort during extended periods of physical activity.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lexington, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.23 - $25.73/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
