Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide comprehensive nursing care within a correctional healthcare setting while ensuring compliance with New York State nursing standards, facility policies, and applicable regulatory requirements. The RN will support the ongoing medical needs of incarcerated individuals, including those with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and acute medical conditions. The position also plays a critical role in evaluating eligible patients and initiating Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs while supporting operations within an 18-bed infirmary that serves multiple correctional facilities.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing evaluation of incarcerated individuals with chronic, acute, and complex medical conditions. • Administer prescribed medications, treatments, and nursing procedures in accordance with physician orders and established nursing protocols. • Evaluate eligible patients for participation in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs and assist with initiation, monitoring, and ongoing care. • Monitor and provide nursing care for patients admitted to the facility's 18-bed infirmary, including individuals transferred from neighboring correctional facilities. • Assess, document, and report changes in patient condition, vital signs, and responses to treatment. • Develop, implement, and update individualized nursing care plans to support continuity of care. • Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care. • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, medication records, treatment plans, and nursing notes in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. • Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide appropriate nursing

interventions. • Educate patients regarding medications, chronic disease management, treatment plans, and health promotion as appropriate. • Assist in maintaining medical supplies, equipment, and medication inventory to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services. • Maintain infection prevention and control standards throughout the healthcare environment. • Perform additional nursing duties and responsibilities as assigned to support correctional healthcare operations.

Work Schedule & Conditions
• Various shifts available:
• 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM
• 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM
• 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM • Overtime: Required as needed • Travel: Not required • Holidays: Required to work New York State holidays as scheduled

Facility Information
• Franklin Correctional Facility provides comprehensive healthcare services within a secure correctional environment. • The facility maintains an 18-bed infirmary that provides care for incarcerated individuals housed both onsite and from neighboring correctional facilities, resulting in a high patient turnover. • Nursing staff provide care for individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, acute medical conditions, and those participating in Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs. • Registered Nurses collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with correctional healthcare standards.

Qualifications & Requirements
• Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of New York. • Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and patient care skills. • Experience in correctional healthcare, medical-surgical, emergency, long-term care, behavioral health, or acute care settings preferred. • Experience caring for patients with chronic illnesses, complex medical conditions, or disabilities preferred.
• Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs or willingness to support MAT services is preferred. • Knowledge of nursing care planning, infection prevention and control practices, and healthcare documentation standards. • Excellent communication, organizational, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary healthcare teams while exercising sound clinical judgment. • Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, regulatory compliance, and professional nursing standards.

Background Check Requirements
• Must successfully complete all facility-required background investigations, credential verification, and security clearances prior to assignment.

Vaccination & Medical Requirements
• Must meet all facility-required medical clearance and health screening requirements prior to assignment.

Required Training
• Facility-specific orientation and mandatory correctional healthcare training will be provided prior to the start of the assignment.

Additional Information
• Three (3) Registered Nurse positions are available. • The primary purpose of these positions is to maintain continuity of care for incarcerated individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and complex medical needs while supporting the facility's Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. • Candidates must be flexible to work any assigned shift, including overtime and New York State holidays, based on operational requirements. • The selected candidate will work within a secure correctional healthcare environment and must comply with all facility security procedures, professional nursing standards, and patient confidentiality requirements. • Additional responsibilities and facility-specific expectations will be discussed during the interview and onboarding process.
