By reaching 22 of 23 communities throughout Boston and Chelsea, no other youth serving organization engages more young people and families.POSITION OVERVIEWThe Kitchen Assistant supports the safe and timely preparation and service of meals and snacks for Club members. The position assists the Culinary Program Manager or other designated supervisor with food preparation, meal service, kitchen sanitation, recordkeeping, and other kitchen operations.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCommitment to Excellence in Meal Preparation, Service, and CompliancePrepare and serve meals and snacks to Club members ages 6-18 as part of BGCB's school-year and summer food programs. Follow applicable USDA, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, local board of health, food safety, and sanitation requirements.Follow established menus, portion sizes, meal patterns, allergen precautions, and dietary accommodation procedures.Maintain accurate daily meal counts, temperature logs, production records, and other required program documentation. Report food safety concerns, injuries, accidents, equipment issues, and other concerns promptly to the supervisor.Safety, Sanitation, and Member SupervisionAssist in the supervision and redirection of members participating in kitchen, cafeteria, or culinary activities as appropriate. Secure and maintain kitchen equipment, supplies, food, cleaning materials, and other resources belonging to the culinary program.Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, cafeteria storage, and food preparation.Follow established procedures for food storage, inventory rotation, waste reduction, cleaning, and prevention of allergen cross-contact.Know safety and emergency procedures and enforce applicable rules and protocols to support the safety of members, staff, and food-service operations.Communication, Collaboration, and TeamworkParticipate in Culinary Department meetings, staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities as assigned. Collaborate with culinary and clubhouse staff to support meal service, Club events, and nutrition or cooking activities.Responsible for evening and weekend building coverage as scheduled.Other related duties as assigned by the Culinary Program Manager, Executive Director, Director of Operations, or other designated supervisor.GENERAL BGCB EXPECTATIONSHealthy Behavior Modeling – Teaching youth/teens the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle is a BGCB priority. The organization encourages and requires that all staff participates in annual professional development opportunities that continue to cultivate their skills in the youth development field.Safe Spaces – Every staff member shares the responsibility for ensuring BGCB is, and remains, an environment free of sexual, physical, or emotional abuse.QUALIFICATIONSRequiredHigh School diploma or GED.Knowledge of kitchen operations, food preparation, food safety, and sanitation practices.At least one year of experience in food service, meal preparation, kitchen operations, or a similar setting.ServSafe certified or willingness to obtain certification upon hire.CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification upon hire. Experience and desire to work with children and teens. Organized, reliable, and able to maintain accurate records and follow established procedures. Strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team.Ability to follow allergen precautions and support dietary recommendations.Flexibility to work clubhouse hours, including afternoon and evening hours during the school year and morning or early afternoon hours during the summer.PreferredValid driver's license.Experience preparing food for CACFP, SFSP, NSLP, or other federal meal programs.Experience maintaining meal counts, temperature logs, production records, or inventory records.TRAVELTravel between BGCB sites and to activities as needed.START DATESeptember 2026 (desired start date yet position open until filled)LOCATIONChelsea, MA (Gerald and Darlene Jordan Club)SALARY & BENEFITSSalary - $19.00/hour - $23.00/hour - commensurate with experience; along with competitive benefits and a great work environmentTO APPLYPlease complete an online application at Both a cover letter and resume are required to complete your application.
