Job Title: SMT Machine Operator
Job Description

The SMT Machine Operator assembles electronic components and operates production equipment in a clean, well-organized manufacturing environment. This role requires excellent manual dexterity to handle small, detailed parts, the ability to read and follow work orders and instructions, and a strong focus on quality, safety, and productivity.

Responsibilities

• Receive production orders, review assembly samples, and study job specifications to determine appropriate assembly procedures.
• Review component lists and obtain parts, sub-assemblies, and mechanical components from the warehouse in accordance with assembly instructions.
• Perform mechanical assembly of small parts and sub-assemblies following detailed work instructions.
• Visually inspect parts and sub-assemblies to verify proper assembly and adherence to quality standards.
• Install printed circuit board assemblies and wire harnesses into housings according to specified methods.
• Position and fasten parts and wires using hand tools and power hand tools, ensuring secure and accurate connections.
• Solder connections in line with established assembly methods and safety practices.
• Advise the floor lead of any issues or difficulties in fitting or assembling parts or sub-assemblies.
• Identify and suggest ways to continuously improve productivity, quality, and safety within the work area.
• Solve minor problems independently and recognize more complex issues that require supervisor assistance.
• Communicate and listen effectively in a professional and courteous manner with team members and leadership.
• Maintain strong attention to detail and organizational skills, keeping work areas neat and orderly.
• Perform simple math calculations, including addition, subtraction, and counting, to support assembly and production tasks.
• Read and follow work orders, written instructions, and verbal directions accurately.
• Use hand tools, power hand tools, and measuring tools such as tape measures to complete assembly tasks.

• Ability to identify minor issues and recognize when to escalate larger problems to a supervisor.
• Comfort working in a structured manufacturing environment with set procedures and standards.

• Experience in manufacturing or production environments.
• Experience in electronic assembly or electrical assembly.
• Prior experience with soldering and brazing.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints or assembly drawings.
• Proficiency using basic hand tools and measuring tools, including tape measures.
• Familiarity with computer skills to support machine operation and documentation.
• Experience operating machinery or production equipment in a manufacturing setting.
• Comfort working with wire harnesses, printed circuit boards, and electrical components.

Work Environment

This role is based in an extremely clean and well-lit manufacturing facility designed for precision electronic assembly. You will work Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. The environment is organized and safety-focused, with access to hand tools, power hand tools, soldering equipment, and measuring tools such as tape measures. You will work at assembly stations handling small components and printed circuit boards, following established procedures and quality standards in a professional production setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fargo, ND.

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
