About the Position: This position is located within the Diagnostic Radiology Service at WRNMMC. It blends hands-on advanced clinical imaging (MRI) with administrative, technical, and personnel leadership over a dedicated team of imaging professionals within a major MTF. The main physical workspace/office is located within the Liberty MRI suite.

Duty hours are 0700-1530. Occasional on-call to include evenings, weekends, or holidays to support mission needs.

Duties

Help

• Serves as a Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist.
• Performs duties as the Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO), responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing MRI safety policies.
• Independently performs a full range of magnetic resonance imaging procedures.
• Provides technical assistance to staff and physicians regarding equipment use, imaging procedures, and specialized imaging requirements.
• Assists radiologists in the performance of complex procedures such as pacemakers, stress cardiacs and functional imaging.
• Adapts imaging parameters based on MRI physics principles to ensure safe, high-quality diagnostic imaging.
• Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities over assigned staff.
• Advises employees on policies, procedures, and management directives.
• Identifies employee developmental needs, arranges training, and encourages self-development.
• Develops, modifies, and interprets performance standards; communicates expectations; and provides regular performance feedback.
• Maintains accountability for MRI equipment and supplies by performing routine equipment checks, documenting performance issues, initiating and tracking work orders.
• Assists building a highly efficient, motivated team by conducting performance appraisals, resolving workplace grievances, and mentoring active-duty technologists toward advanced clinical certifications.
• Leads quality control programs, equipment procurement reviews, and safety training, directly contributing to superior patient care outcomes.
• Implements new imaging protocols, software upgrades, and hardware transitions.

• This position is designated as moderate risk involving Public Trust. Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation including a credit check to determine suitability for Federal employment and/or the position.
• This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required.
• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• This position may require the incumbent to complete a one-year supervisory probationary period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (l) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:

(l) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.

(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing diagnostic imaging operations; performing radiologic procedures; and providing technical guidance to staff. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
