If you're looking for meaningful work and the opportunity to make a difference in the community, we want to hear from you.Responsible for the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems, substation construction and maintenance, and switching for both distribution and transmission voltages.Constructs and installs overhead and underground distribution lines. Examples of duties include digging holes and trenches, setting poles, climbing poles, stringing wire, placing equipment and testing systems.Performs work on energized and de-energized lines, daily. Performs this work in darkness, as needed. Operates heavy and light equipment, including digger derricks, aerial lift devices and backhoes. Works with various tools of the trade. Participates in the instruction and development of Lineman Trainees and Apprentice Linemen. Leads by example. Actively and positively participates in department meetings, safety meetings and tailboards. Performs after-hours duties, as required. Responds to callouts in a timely manner. Works scheduled and unscheduled overtime, as needed or as required. A primary residence within reasonable response time (20 minutes) to Pasco Operations Center is required. Locates underground cable as requested by customers. Customer service: Interacts with public during the normal course of business, in the Operations Center and in the field. Behaves in a courteous, professional manner. Professional behavior: Understands and follows District/supervisor expectations regarding appropriate dress, attendance, punctuality, scheduled and unscheduled time off, and appropriate use of District time, equipment and resources. Performs other duties as assigned.The District may revise the duties and responsibilities of this position as needed.All employees are responsible for understanding and following District/supervisor expectations regarding professional appearance, attendance, punctuality, scheduled and unscheduled time off, appropriate use of District time, equipment, and resources, and maintaining a record of attendance and availability necessary to provide adequate support to the department.Education and experience: High School diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an apprentice program, including classroom and work hours, and attainment of electrical line workers journey level status. Two years of journey level work experience is preferred but not required.Skills, knowledge and abilities: Thorough understanding of electrical theory and the safety regulations and work methods associated with electrical line work. Understanding of line construction and maintenance. Ability to safely and effectively operate the tools of the trade and the heavy and light equipment associated with electrical line work. Ability to communicate in an effective manner, demonstrating job knowledge. Ability to work in a team environment.A valid WA Driver's License with Class A CDL, valid CPR/First Aid certification and Flagger's card, and willingness to perform required.Residency Requirement: Must maintain a primary residence within reasonable response time (20 minutes) to the Pasco Operations Center.Character of supervision received: Supervision and assignments are provided by the crew Foreman, under the direction of the Transmission and Distribution Superintendent.Character of supervision given: Is not responsible for the performance of others. May provide guidance to apprentices. Sets an example of safe, professional behavior for apprentices.Responsibility for confidential matters: Should not come into contact with confidential information during the normal course of business. Exercises discretion and good judgment should he/she come into contact with sensitive employee or customer information.Responsibility for getting along with others: Working as a team member is crucial to the success of Linemen. The Lineman interacts positively and effectively with coworkers, other department members and customers.Pressure of work: Pressure of work may come from the safety sensitive nature of line work, working at heights, working as part of a crew, working during outages, and when working in dangerous weather conditions.Impact of errors: Errors in judgment can result in negative financial impact, inconvenience to customers, unsafe working conditions, injury, or loss of life.Unusual working conditions: Infrequent travel for training may be required. Callouts for overtime work, including storm work, will occur. Must be capable of working effectively at heights exceeding 20 feet.Physical RequirementsWorks outdoors in all weather conditions.Walks and works on all terrain, including uneven, rocky or sandy ground.Possesses physical capabilities required to safely operate a motor vehicle, in all driving conditions.Possesses sight, strength and coordination necessary to safely and effectively operate heavy and light equipment and tools.Climbs poles and works at heights.Duties entail full-body exertion, strenuous lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling.Pushes, pulls, lifts and carries up to 60 pounds.
