Position Details Job Code: JC-525257 Position #: 900-181-1405-XXX Working Title: Chief, District 11 IT Operations Classification: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MANAGER I Salary Range: $9,387.00 – $12,579.00 Number of Positions: 1 Work Location: San Diego County Telework: Hybrid Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Department: Caltrans Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Branch Chief, IT Manager II, IT District Operations, the incumbent serves as the Chief for the District 11 IT Office, overseeing the Desktop Services, Network Operations, and Operations Services Units. The IT operations staff includes professionals at various classification levels ranging from Information Technology Associate to Information Technology Supervisor II. The incumbent has full management responsibility for standards, processes, and procedures for the analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, operation, and procurement of hardware and software for desktops and mobile devices, and for organizing, planning, coordinating, directing, and controlling all activities associated with day‑to‑day IT operations of the District 11 San Diego Office and the supported region. Domain Client Services Special Requirements Position will be filled via the California Department of Transportation Managerial Selection Program (MSP) process pursuant to California Code of Regulations 549.90, which provides for examination and job‑selection specific to the position. Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience as an Information Technology Supervisor I; or One year of experience as an Information Technology Supervisor II; or Six years of information technology experience performing progressively responsible technical, analytical, or supervisory tasks in major IT domains or related fields, with at least two years of highly specialized work in a lead capacity or incrementally responsible supervisory capacity over complex systems. Education qualifications: a master's or doctorate may substitute for four years of experience; a bachelor's may substitute for three years; an associate’s may substitute for one year. Only one degree may be used for substitution, and education must include 15 semester units (or 22.5 quarter units) of information technology or closely related coursework. Examination Information The examination will evaluate experience and education against the class specification. Candidates must accurately complete the State application (STD 678) and submit all required documents, including official transcripts if using education for substitution. OOC experience requires signed and approved documentation. The examination does not establish a civil service list; candidates will be notified of results.
