Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Drafts, formats, and prepares complex legal documents under the direction of the Corporation Counsel, including pleadings, briefs, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, leases, real estate deeds, and Chapter 51/55 petitions.
Schedules court hearings, coordinates witness testimony, arranges medical evaluations for commitment proceedings, and collaborates with law enforcement for necessary subject transportation.
Manages the electronic filing (e-Filing) of all lawsuits, citations, answers, and petitions through the Wisconsin Circuit Court system.
Serves as a primary point of contact for, and communicates frequently with, North Central Health Care Center staff, medical professionals, court officials, department heads, and the general public regarding office programs and Chapter 51/55 proceedings.
Manages the Corporation Counsels calendar, coordinates public records requests, processes invoices, tracks the department budget, maintains office inventory, and updates legal research materials.
Establishes and maintains the office's physical and digital filing systems, ensuring compliance with county and state record retention and destruction schedules.
May proved administrative and project support to other County departments during vacancies, peak volumes, or as operationally required.

Education and/or Experience
Associate degree in Paralegal Studies, Legal Administrative Assistant, Office Support, or a closely related field, plus 1 to 2 years of legal office experience; OR High School diploma (or equivalent) plus 4 to 5 years of experience in a legal or court support role; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficient understanding of legal terminology, standard legal document formats, and state statutory frameworks (specifically Wisconsin Chapters 51 and 55). Ability to read and interpret real estate legal descriptions.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including expert proofreading for grammar, syntax, and typographical accuracy.
Proven capability to work independently, manage shifting deadlines, and interact professionally with diverse stakeholders, including difficult or escalated individuals.
Absolute commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality regarding legal records, personnel actions, and county operations.
Technological Skills
Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Windows environments, and modern digital court filing systems.
