Sign‑On Bonus Police Officer - Certified: $20,000** Florida Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus: $5,000 (after taxes) to eligible newly employed officers. Pay Scale (Effective October 1, 2025) Step 1 – $71,286.54 Step 2 – $74,875.58 Step 3 – $78,726.96 Step 4 – $82,499.56 Step 5 – $86,717.80 Step 6 – $91,014.30 Step 7 – $95,546.62 Step 8 – $100,340.76 Step 9 – $105,371.24 Step 10 – $110,640.40 Work Objective Performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities including police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and other traditional and non‑traditional related law enforcement activities. Works under the direct supervision of a Police Sergeant, with additional supportive supervision from the command staff of the police department. Written Civil Service Examination Applicants selected will be invited to take the written civil service exam. Participation is required; otherwise, the applicant will not be considered for the position. Minimum Qualifications Must be 19 years or older at the time of employment. Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State of Florida driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state. Felony convictions and disqualifying criminal histories within the past seven years are not allowed. U.S. citizen. Must be able to read and write the English language. Must possess or be able to obtain certification from the Federal Emergency Management Administration, including National Incident Management System IS‑700 Introduction to NIMS, IS‑800 National Response Plan, IS‑100 Introduction to Incident Command, and IS‑200 Incident Command for Single Resources within one (1) year of employment start date. Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; Proof of valid FDLE Law Enforcement Certification. All minimum requirements for the Police Officer position will be discussed at the orientation/information session. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Current State of Florida Basic Law Enforcement Certification. Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Working knowledge of federal laws, state statutes, and local ordinances. Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of the Hallandale Police Department. Working knowledge of First Responder and CPR techniques. Some skill in operating the tools and equipment listed below. Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations. Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers and supervisors. Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions quickly and objectively, sometimes under emergency situations. Ability to learn and adapt to changing technologies and practices. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to learn the City’s geography. Ability to exercise discretion. Special Requirements Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Florida Driver’s License without record of suspension or revocation in any state. Must be able to meet the Department’s physical standards if any. Lateral Transfers Candidates with qualifying experience and FDLE Police Officer certification may be eligible for a higher entry rate of pay based on their experience. Eligible experience includes service as a state, county, or municipal police officer. Screening Process Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include evaluation of training and experience, background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph examination, medical evaluation, and controlled substance screen. Affidavit Applicants are required to sign an affidavit for non‑use of tobacco products to be considered for employment.
