Job Title: Material Handler Job Description

The Material Handler plays a key role in supporting production and maintenance activities by efficiently receiving materials, performing inspections, managing inventory and cycle counts, and preparing kits for use in an industrial environment. This position requires a hands-on, energetic individual who can work independently, handle multiple tasks, and contribute to continuous improvement in a growing facility.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming materials and components, ensuring accuracy against packing slips and purchase orders.

• Inspect materials upon receipt to verify quality, condition, and compliance with specifications.

• Perform inventory management tasks, including regular cycle counting and reconciliation of discrepancies.

• Organize, stage, and kit materials for production, maintenance, and construction-related projects.

• Maintain orderly and clearly labeled storage areas for electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and other industrial components.

• Support troubleshooting activities by ensuring required parts and materials are available when needed.

• Handle materials safely and efficiently within the facility, following all standard operating procedures.

• Collaborate with production, maintenance, and other departments to understand material requirements and priorities.

• Identify and initiate projects to improve material flow, organization, and inventory accuracy in a growing environment.

• Work effectively in situations with some ambiguity by proactively seeking information and clarifying requirements.

• Monitor stock levels and communicate re-order needs to appropriate personnel.

• Use basic tools and equipment appropriate for an industrial setting to assist with material handling tasks.

• Adhere to all safety guidelines and contribute to maintaining a clean and safe work area.

Essential Skills

• Prior experience in receiving and material handling in an industrial setting.

• Demonstrated experience with inventory management and cycle counting.

• Experience performing inspection of incoming materials and components.

• Hands-on experience with kitting materials for production or maintenance work.

• Basic understanding of common electrical components.

• Ability to work in an industrial environment with mechanical, maintenance, construction, and HVAC-related materials.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot material-related issues.

• Energetic, self-starting attitude with the ability to work independently.

• Ability to function effectively in situations with some ambiguity and changing priorities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or higher is preferred.

• Experience working in electrical, mechanical, maintenance, construction, or HVAC environments.

• Comfort using inventory systems or basic computer applications to track materials.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing inventory and documentation.

• Effective communication skills to coordinate with production, maintenance, and other teams.

• Ability to identify and initiate improvement projects in a growth-oriented facility.

Work Environment

This role is based at an industrial facility in Hillsboro, working closely with production and maintenance teams. The environment involves handling electrical, mechanical, maintenance, construction, and HVAC-related materials and components. You will work in a hands-on setting where being a self-starter is important, as the organization is in growth mode and expects team members to seek out projects and contribute proactively. The work may involve moving around the facility, working in storage areas and near production equipment, and following all safety procedures appropriate for an industrial workplace.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hillsboro, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
