NYC union HVAC contractor seeks HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician who installs, maintains, diagnoses, and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This is a union role. Local 638B

Job Summary:
The HVAC/Refrigeration Service Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration equipment. The technician ensures systems operate efficiently, safely, and in compliance with applicable codes and manufacturer specifications while providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration system problems using testing equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, chillers, freezers, coolers, and refrigeration units.
  • Recharge refrigerant systems and detect refrigerant leaks in accordance with EPA regulations.
  • Repair or replace defective components such as compressors, motors, thermostats, valves, fans, and electrical controls.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Test system performance and verify proper operation after repairs.
  • Complete service reports, maintenance records, and work orders accurately.
  • Follow OSHA safety procedures and company safety policies.
  • Communicate repair recommendations and maintenance needs to customers.
  • Respond to emergency service calls as required.
  • Company truck provided

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical or vocational training in HVAC/Refrigeration preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification (required for handling refrigerants in the U.S.).
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Experience servicing commercial or residential HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50–75 pounds and work in confined spaces, on rooftops, or in varying weather conditions.
